With an open mind and genuine interest in others.

What’s the best way to meet new people while traveling?

Simply by being genuinely open to new experiences, learning and understanding. This means not being too judgemental, or comparing your country with the one your travelling through. A warm and compassionate personality is also a must. I think travelling with a sense of gratitude and joy automatically makes people appear either more charismatic or magnetic to others. Also don’t be afraid to smile at people and strike up conversation when it feels safe and organic.

Try to be natural and allow life to simply just flow, forcing yourself or your excitement onto others is definitely not advisable.

Whereas visiting places of interest like historical sites, museums, art galleries etc allows for you to strike up a conversation such as “I just love the way so and so used colour, or the way the brush strokes add depth and perspective” Who knows that could start a 20 minute conversation about art and life, or politics.

Just be yourself, warm, approachable and mindful. Learn to read body language, and more importantly the room. Embrace your inner child and let them lead the way, after all making friends as a child was incredibly so much easier than as an adult.

I’d say try to get out of your own head and silence the ego and inner critic. Learning to lean into being in the moment. This will invariably make it so much easier to meet people where they are at, and not come across as a desperate try-hard.

So breathe, smile and embrace the moment and you’re already half way there. People will genuinely feel your grounded warmth and delight in meeting you.
