One good decision at a time.

What’s a personal mantra or philosophy you live by?

I personally believe that the way to navigate life’s tides isn’t about standing atop a soapbox, proclaiming grandiose promises of “I’m going to be perfect! I going to achieve my goals! I’m going to never stuff up or make mistakes”. No, I choose to humbly, and graciously believe that life is simply a series of making the right choices and decisions – one choice and decision after another. And if I stuff up and make a wrong call, make a poor choice, I simply breathe and remind myself “Hey, don’t be a catastrophist! All I need to do is make the right decision next time” I simply choose not to be a perfectionist, a carry the weight of unreasonable and unrealistic expectations.

There is power in knowing that all I need to do is string a series of good decisions together- effectively weaving my own joyful and rich life. If I stuff up, it really isn’t the end of the world. There is a sense of radical empathy and acceptance in this philosophy. It’s not about making excuses or living in denial, but rather realising that I can curate an existence that is healthy and conducive to positive health and wellbeing. It allows me to remove the blinkers of fatalism and the need for perfectionism, replacing them with a gentler, kinder, more palatable lens of self-acceptance and self-compassion. So the mantra is “you’ve got this! No worries – you’ll be fine, just be more mindful and willing to step out of your immediate comfort zone. Just remember, one step at a time, and one good honest decision after the next.

A lot of my other mantras relate to personal boundaries, so if you want to read them, let me know in the comments.
