What’s a thing you wish schools actually taught?
Radical empathy, the power of true authenticity, kindness, compassion and metacognition. All crucial components of an advancing society and human experience.
Oh, and teach history actually as it happened, and not just from fanciful the perspective of the colonists, oppressors, aggressors and oligarchs. Teach social and political history – and how historical and systemic issues still impact the present.
Teach the importance of nature, and humanities need to be custodians of the land.
As a parent of a daughter with a rare disorder and disabilities, I’d love schools to teach the fact that humanity is expressed and valued in so many different forms – not just the fully able and functional. Humanity is a shared expression and experience of both differences and similarities. Beauty exists everywhere.
I wish schools taught that financial wealth is only one form of wealth and that joy, friendship, community and connection are valuable beyond compare.
