Green, lush and alive.

What does your ideal home look like?

My ideal home would be a glass greenhouse filled to the brim with large lush green plants. I’d have plants hanging from ceilings, walls and windows. My kitchen area would consist of polished concrete floors, specs of colour shining up at me. My kitchen countertops, benches and cupboards would be industrial stainless steel and reclaimed hard woods. I’d have an array of oversized mason jars lining the exposed shelving. Large copper coloured pots and pans adorn the top shelf. Their patina a warm indication of the countless hours used to prepare family meals. An heirloom from my mother, and a beautiful reminder of earlier times.

The bedroom area would be at the back, up on a mezzanine level. Where I could lay in bed, or sit on my comfy sofa and admire my beautiful plants. The room would be complete, with one internal wall consisting of a large wooden panelled bookcase. Another half wall would consist of a huge aquarium, teaming with brightly coloured fish and aquatic plants.

My bathroom would be absolutely resplendent, with glorious light streaming through the glass windows and walls. The bathroom would consist of an indoor/outdoor inspired shower – basically able to shower outside during the long summer and autumn months. Yet come winter time, a simple sliding door seals the room off from the outside. The bathroom would be an absolute tropical paradise, with luscious leafy green plants creating a private oasis. A large clawfoot bathtub adds to the sense of calm and tranquility.

The home would be completely surrounded in nature, with absolutely NO NEIGHBOURS within 3 kilometres. NONE!!

I’d have an indoor wood combustion stove, creating warmth and ambience during chilly winter days and nights. I’d have a dedicated writing space, with an oversized antique wooden desk. I’d have a wraparound veranda, with ample seating and table space, including an outdoor dining area and additional kitchen cooker. I’d have a large magnesium pool, where we’d swim, lounge and laugh. I’d have a great sound system wired throughout the home, so I could play amazing tunes for myself, the family and the plants.

Ah … I can dream, can’t I?
