What fears have you overcome and how?
MI’ve overcome a whole raft of fears, from fears associated with parenting a child with additional medical, cognitive and social support needs, to fears of death and dying. How? You might ask, well quite literally embracing courage, compassion, humour and an impenetrable sense of resilient tenaciousness. I faced my fear of loss, by being completely present with my father as I held him as he passed, embracing him as he breathed his final breaths. Life is an incredible concoction of highs, lows, loves, loss, joy and at times despair. In order to experience the deepest love, one needs to step into being vulnerable, being open to feeling emotions and thoughts. It’s simply a journey, of one step at a time, one good decision at a time. If I stuff up, it’s okay as I just make sure my next step is firmer, softer, more grounded, leading to a better outcome. The greatest lessons I have learned is to understand the inherent difference between fear based on the fear of fear, and fear that is actually grounded in something real. Once you’ve faced the fear of fear, you’re pretty well equipped to peer into the darkest of voids, and still see light, to be able to intuit your way out.
