Inner child

Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?

Let’s face it, adulting is hard. We’re not given a manual on how to parent, adult or succeed in life. We’re not given a manual on how to strike that perfect balance between work and play. It’s more a case of intuiting our way, feeling our way through life’s quagmire. So, what does playtime look like to me? Playtime isn’t a separate and discrete moment of being, but rather ensuring I listen to my inner child’s needs and wants, and finding sensible, reliable and appropriate ways to meet them. This has meant pursuing a career that my adult self loves and finds value, meaning and purpose in. This effectively means that my adult self is relatively happy and not at odds with herself, not struggling on a daily basis. Why is this important? It matters because it means I have mental space and energy to see and find joy, to see and express the humour and absurdity of life. Laughter and lightness to me does represent playtime. So in that respect because I have work/life balance I have surplus energy and emotion to imbue my day with humour, aka “playtime”. Basically playtime represents the moments that my inner child expresses herself, so my everyday is pepper with moments of playtime, which inadvertently help me to continue to be a healthier adult.
