Write about your dream home.
My dream home would best be described as a hybrid greenhouse, with walls and walls of abundant light. The kitchen would resemble a glass (heavy hail-safe Perspex) domed atrium, with pure light streaming in. I would have an abundance of indoor plants adorning timber and industrial style bespoke kitchen benches, that had been crafted using recycled timbers and metals. I would have an array of plants suspended from the high ceilings, which would add beauty, function and form. The rustic kitchen will comprise of an antique French-farmers sunken sink, some hand hammered recycled copper backsplash and hardware. Open shelving would adorn the kitchen, with a large kitchen island. Antique glass bottles and jars line the benches, each one hiding an incredible herb, spice, oil or ingredient. The island bench would be a special place where I could create magic using an old family heirloom mortar and pestle.
The bathroom would contain an outdoor/indoor vibe, with a large sliding French door, which when opened allowed bathing and showering in a highly secluded but open area. The bathroom would be home to another incredible array of native plants.
The house would be built on acreage, with privacy in mind. The home will utilise solar power and rainwater catchment system. The master bedroom (I think other countries refer to it as the primary room) will be built suspended over a mezzanine level. It would overlook the entire large open plan living space. Copper curtain rails run the length of the room, allowing the choice to drape luxurious fabrics to provide a little privacy and filter out some of the morning light. My children’s spaces would be in another corner of the home, where they have privacy and freedom to create their own unique style. However, that space is private from the main greenhouse style, and does not ultimately affect the overall aesthetic of the home.
The home will have a built in water feature, alive with rushes, reeds, aquatic plants and fish. It adds colour and beauty to the space. The lounge area would be built under the master mezzanine level, allowing for more flexibility, such as darkening the space to watch movies. The home would also have a large dinning table, handmade using antique reclaimed woods. A mosh-mash of lovingly worn chairs would marry well with the electric nature of the table. Each chair well and truly able to tell a unique story. In fact the table and chairs would be a perfect metaphor for my family and I. Each of us are uniquely different, yet connected but a deep commonality.
The gardens would frame the home, much like a painting. Dappled sunlight would dance upon the lush lawns which will be kept short by wandering goats in an attempt to maximise safety. That is ensuring deadly snakes are less of a problem. The gardens contain a Freeform magnesium mineral pool, heated by solar and functional all-year long. A sunken fire-pit would be home to a range of rustic seating options. Fruit trees would adorn the gardens, and the heavily scent of their flowers would waft throughout the entire home. Birds and bees would be constant visitors, helping to keep the space alive. There would be a small beautifully equipped granny flat (in-law accommodation) deep in the garden for family and friends to stay.
