Name your top three pet peeves.
Micro managers – I detest, vehemently abhor all forms of micro management, as it robs me of autonomy, choice, creativity and passion. It undermines self agency, experience and knowledge. In a world of big blue sky thinking and endless possibilities, micro management is like blinkered short-sightedness that robs us all of achieving more than just the ordinary.
Running late- I cannot handle being late. I pride myself on being a punctual person. To me it translates to being respectful of my time and the time of the person or people I have scheduled time with. I think this is actually a learned behaviour my dad drummed into me. If I schedule a 10am session with a client, then that is when it starts. I’m much more forgiving of others running late, then I am of myself.
I instead of ‘we’ – a serious pet peeve of mine is people who continuously use ‘I’ instead of ‘we’ especially when relating to group based activities and work. Although I love autonomy and personal responsibility, when it comes to any team-based work I think it’s only fair that our language reflects teamwork. I detest narcissistic traits, and for me language is an important tool we can all use to show respect, connection and collaboration. After all there is no I in team.
