I once stumbled upon a …

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever found (and kept)?

I was going to say my sanity, but hey, I’ll leave that one there as a tasteless joke. One very hot two-week long proper deep in the bush camping trip, my kids and I were exploring the part of the river bed that was used for 4WD vehicle crossings. We were enjoying the cooling waters, as the intense hot sun beat down on our backs. The stones underfoot where smooth and a little slippery. I noticed one that was slightly different from the others (yeah I’ve got great pattern recognition skills) Anyway, I bent down and picked it up, and to my amazement found an ancient fossil. The large deceptively heavy black stone had a perfect imprint of what I believe is a brachiopod fossil. The flash was on and the fossil appears lighter than it actually is. Why did I consider it to be so totally awesome? Because as a kid my dream was to become a geologist, so rocks and stones have always fascinated me.
