It’s the little things

What daily habit do you do that improves your quality of life?

Okay, so I won’t bore you with an exhaustive list of my daily habits, what I will do is share just a glimpse of some. With that you’d be able to get to know the way I think and move in and around this world. Funny how our habits can give great insight into our individual and collective psyches.

Firstly – Drink of water and Moringa Leaf capsules… this is a daily ritual. I mindfully drink the water and prefer to do so standing in sunlight. It becomes a mindfully based micro-meditative activity. Its about connecting to self and nature.

I say good morning to the sun, and my indoor plants. Yes, you read that right. I also delight in discovering dew or condensation droplets on the tips of my indoor plants. They shine bright crystals, gracefully balancing on life’s edge ( a bit of a metaphor really). I touch each of these drops, as if connecting to a life source. It feels as though I am absorbing that beautiful energy. It feels sacred and life-giving. Although, so many others wouldn’t even notice, to me they are actually a source of morning joy and gratitude.

After my daughter with special needs is picked up by her school taxi, I make a steaming hot almond milk latte, and head out into my garden, where I reset for 10 minutes, especially given that from 6:00-7:20am it is a whirlwind or flurry of hurried excitement and stress. In that 10 minute reprieve I listen to birdsong, often see Kookaburras or Butcherbirds waiting on the pool fence, just waiting to be fed.

Sometimes I will quickly plant something, this week it has been shallot/spring onion ends, old seeded potatoes and tomatoes. This literally takes only a minute or two. Although I live in a metropolitan city, I have outdoor space, and really try to honour it. Then it’s time to ensure my sons are up and ready for the day ahead, as well as getting myself ready and off to work. Hopefully in this time, I get the clothes washing on, dishwasher on and make myself some lunch for work. I’d love to be able to hang out the washing before heading into work, but I’ve yet to master this.

Oh I also love walking barefoot on the grass, especially if heavy with dew or residual rain, it reminds me of walking on the beach. Finally, I will also spent a good minute of two mesmerised by the morning sun as it dances upon the dewy trees outside. The trees come alive as is draped in millions of iridescent crystals. That is almost a micro-meditative state of consciousness.

    1. Thanks … I’m not sure everyone gets it though. Sometimes I’m just a little too esoteric or cerebral.
