Tell us about the last thing you got excited about.
Okay, I’ll be the first to admit I have a very healthy inner child, and she is willfully strong and exudes a natural sense of awe and wonder. So, my adult self is prone to ‘breakouts’ of awe-inspired wonder and excitement. So, the simple act of identifying moments of excitement is nuanced. So, I will break it down simply, one relating to a personal sense of excitement and the other involving other people.
This week, I enjoyed attending a strategic planning day with my colleagues. I love the opportunity of sitting together, brainstorming and creating some very tangible and innovative projects, ideas and policies. We worked hard on creating a concise statement that clearly and succinctly outlined our scope of practice. I was excited, knowing that my intellectual energy was equally matched by others with a shared vision and goals. We were left with this profound moment when we all stood back and said, “Wow”, all abuzz with a crystal clear sense of clarity and direction.
The other most recent time when I felt pure joy and excitement course through every cell of my body, mind and spirit, was out in my garden when I was lucky enough to glimpse multiple solitary native blue-banded bees and a native solitary teddy-bear bee vying for the attention of the same flower and pollen. The bees are native, not all too common and emit the most adorable buzzing sound. To stand barefoot on the grass, feel the sun’s warmth on my skin, and lose myself in the majesty of nature was magic. It wasn’t anything grand, expensive or converted by billions of people. It was just a moment in time (several moments) when I was privileged to observe nature and its beauty, power and sacredness.
Seriously, in those moments, there is no place on this earth that I’d rather be. It feels blissful, and I am in flow. It felt like I could peel away the veil dividing myself and nature, being able to peer in, watch, listen and observe. Similar to what astral travelling and lucid dreaming would feel like. I discovered that the bees come to my garden around the same time every day, and as you can imagine, when working from home or on weekends, I would eagerly await their arrival, much like a loved one waiting for a plane’s arrival. I would hear the buzzing first and anticipated the crescendoing excitement. I have several of my own videos and photos of the bees, and will try to find them, editing this post later. I would also just like to say that I have been deliberately planting flowers and herbs in my garden to attract birds and bees. So, there is another layer of excitement seeing my work come to fruition. After reading this response I realise just how much of a geek I am … and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
