Too hard to answer.

What are your top ten favourite movies?

Okay, this is a very difficult question, seriously so. Why? Glad you asked, you did ask didn’t you?

  1. I love the science fiction fantasy genre unless bordering on gory horror, then it is a definite no for me. I cannot do horror, whether it be gore or psychological. There are too many great fantasy-sci-fi movies and series to nominate from. In terms of gore, I hate gratuitous blood and guts, or violence.
  2.  I love non-fiction documentaries and series. I am a massive fan of all the ALONE series, ranging from the latest one in Australia to the US, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. I am a serious fan; I can only imagine the incredible solitude one would experience being left to fend on your own in wild and rugged nature. I have serious envy.
  3.  I love kid’s shows, or family-type super fantastical shows, like Matilda (the original movie, not the latest musical movie)
  4.  I literally fell in love with Avatar … seeing the 1st movie three times in one week at the actual movies. I found it visually stunning, and the storyline really got me. It was an experience.
  5.  I have gone through stages of being obsessed with Bollywood, the colour, the excitement, the music and the beauty. Two of my top 20 movies are Indian, ‘Taare Zameen Par’ (Stars on Earth). I found it an incredibly compassionate and moving story about a young boy with dyslexia. I also loved ‘The Lunchbox’; once again, I loved the sensitivities of the movie.
  6.  I love Nordic-Noir movies and series. I absolutely loved the Norwegian ‘Ragnarok’ series and am desperately waiting for the 3rd and final season to drop on August 24th … yeah baby, just 2 more days. The mix of mythology, human angst and reality is captivating. I can easily imagine myself in this type of environment.
  7.  I love mythology movies and series. I love King Arthur, Merlin and the whole Camelot-type scenario. I would love to write a novel or two in this fantasy mythology genre.
  8.  I love dry, acerbic wit, as seen in movies and shows in Australia and the UK. Some standout Australian movies capture that irreverent wit, ‘The Castle’, ‘The DIsh’ and ‘Mureils Wedding’.
  9.  I love watching subtitled movies. I have watched hundreds of Korean, Spanish, Indian, Icelandic, Polish, and Scandinavian shows, so much so that I started to understand some Swedish, Finnish, Danish and Norwegian. It is truly bizarre how our brains work.
  10.  I’m not into the major American blockbuster movies; instead preferring the smaller independent, art-house-type shows. I loved ‘The Quiet Girl’. Once again, it was a beautifully sensitive movie; I loved hearing the Irish language.
  11.  I love Christmas movies, dystopian shows, and shows that keep me guessing. It’s rare when I haven’t worked out the plot and ending 5 minutes into a movie. So, as you can imagine, it is an absolute delight when I stumble across a show that pleasantly surprises me.
  12. I love nature and history documentaries, especially ancient history
  13. And I adore all of RuPaul’s Drag Race shows, watched the French, US, Australian/NZ, Swedish, Belgium, Dutch, Italian, Mexican, Spanish, Filipino, Italian, UK versions. This has been instrumental in helping me break down some of the bias and prejudices I had developed inadvertently through socialisation. I love the series, such talented, entertaining and warm personalities.

I told you I was eclectic, so you can see the difficulty in naming my top 10.
