Why?

What are you curious about?

I was that kid, you know the one who always wanted to know more. To actually know ‘why’ somethings were as they were. So long as I had the why, then I could eagerly and gleefully fill in the who, what, where, when, and how etc. For me the why was key, and it’s still the same as an adult. I need to know the ‘why or purpose’ the ‘reason’ behind or underpinning something or other. Yesterday I attended an ‘Continuing Educational Development’ course based on the psychology of trauma. It piqued my interest, and as I was doing the pre-reading I wanted to know more, much more. I think I delved deep into neuropsychology and the Polyvagal Theory and how it relates to experiences and memories of trauma. Basically I don’t want to simply be force fed rote type learning, but rather learn the whys, the underlying reasons, purposes about life, things, society and people. I want to understand the social, political, historical, cultural context. Some people are content on swallowing information, I want to know where it came from, why, who created it and for what purpose. I want to be able to contextualise, discerning fact from fiction, reality from truth and relevance to irrelevance. As they say, ‘information is power’ I’d say real knowledge is power.
